Topeka High School

Class of 1960

55th Reunion

September 25th & 26th, 2015

Friday, September 25, 2015    5pm    Ed Webber’s Farm

A very casual western evening is planned with an authentic western meal cooked over an open fire, complete with a real chuck wagon, bonfire, and real western music. Ed’s farm is a perfect natural setting for this event with a log cabin, acres of wooded hills and a beautiful 6 acre lake. Our reunion committee has been to many gatherings there over the years and trust you will be pleased with our plans for this event. A large tent, tables, chairs and a COMPLIMENTERY BAR will be provided. The cost will be $35 per person. Ed’s farm is a 20 to 25 minute drive north of North Topeka. Directions will be provided later. So, plan to wear your boots, jeans, and hats and enjoy sharing this very special and unique evening with your friends and classmates of 55 years past.

Saturday, September 26, 2015    10am   Kansas Capital Tour

Arrangements are made for a guided tour of the newly restored and completed Kansas State Capitol. The restoration costs are in excess of $330,000,000 and has taken nearly 15 years to complete. The preservation and historical significance of this building is absolutely awesome. Today our State Capitol is nationally recognized as one of the finest in the USA. There is no charge for the guided tour which we understand will take 1 to 2 hours. This is a must see for everyone; it will make you proud to be a Kansan!!!

Saturday, September 26, 2015    6pm   Topeka Country Club

The committee has planned an Italian themed evening with entertainment. Arrive at 6pm for a Social Hour. A COMPLIMENTERY BAR is included throughout the evening. A complete Italian Buffet with 3 meat choices and an assorted dessert station will be available from 7 to 8pm. There will be a very brief program after dinner. Rudy Amato will then entertain until 10pm. He is a professional entertainer and imitator of Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and many, many more. Tony is very personable, involves the audience and not TOO loud. You are welcome to dance if you choose. The Club will remain open until 11:30pm for those who wish to stay and share time with fellow friends and classmates. The dress is business casual and the cost will be $70 per person for the evening. We have heard from some of you that you would prefer not to have a band as we have in the past primarily because of too much noise and it is hard to converse. We understand but some still would like to have a band and dance. The entertainment (Tony) is a compromise and we think a good one. We hope you will think so too.

Out of Towner’s

The committee is not planning to select a host hotel as we have in the past. There are several reasons why:

  1. We were unable to negotiate a reasonable room discount with the Capital Plaza or the Downtown Ramada. You could do as well or better with an AAA, AARP, or senior discount.
  1. The committee would be held responsible for hotel rooms not filled within the original block of rooms reserved. Their cancellation policy is very one-sided and practically non-existent the closer you get to the reserved dates.
  1. The Capital Plaza requires we purchase our own liability policy to cover any accidents or damage to the hotel or they will provide it for $200. We were shocked and never heard of that before.
  2. There are no hospitality rooms or scheduled events at any hotel.
  3. You have your choice of any hotel in town via the Internet. Many of you may have credit card or club points that will be of benefit to you in one hotel or another.

We are looking forward to our very special weekend next September and sincerely hope to see each of you here at home, in Topeka. Registration information will be available on the website after the Holidays.

Welcome to the Topeka High Class Of 1960 web site. Everything is free for the website so get ready for the Next Big Reunion of the Topeka High Class of 1960 (Maybe 2015 or 2020 - Who knows?)

Special thanks and appreciation should be given to the organizers and workers of all our previous reunions. A great deal of very hard work and time donation has been given by Marita Leonard (Elliott), Gary Gilbert, JoAnn Marshall (Pfuetze), Joan Oliver (Stephens), Coreena Siebuhr (Barth), Cyrus "Buster" Elting, and others. Their experience made our Golden Reunion very memorable and successful. Thank you to you special classmates!
